"Walk the Dog" 2018 oil on canvas 24" x 36"
This is an old farm house ruin on the corner of Bristol Road and Lower State Road in Chalfont, PA. I pass it on my way to and from my day job. The boarded up bay window caught my eye one day. I went back on a Saturday in March and made a sketch and took sme photos.
I liked the idea of making most of the composition the shadowed area of the house and squeazing the figue and dog and landscape into a narrower slice of the canvas to balance the large void of shadows with the sunlit activity on the opposite side.
Scott posed for the figure wearing my father's gardening boots. Not quite Wellingtons but that was the idea. The dog is from a Google search of dogs sniffing. I most enjoyed painting the sticks and leaves on the ground. It becomes mindless activity after a while. I guess I like mindless activities.
