"The Gjetost Eaters" 2016 oil on canvas 36" x 36"
Gjetost (pronounced yeht-ohst), that strange Norwegian goat cheese I grew up with becomes the subject of a painting, not to mention my new license plate. Could this become a series? Hmmmm...A still life certainly. Maybe combined with Munch's "Scream". The problem is that Gjetost by itself doesn't necessarily look like cheese. No holes like Swiss. No rind like Brie. No red waxy rind like Gouda. Not individually wrapped wedges like Laughing Cow.
Definitely an under-appreciated cheese.
