"Lawnscape" 2016 oil on canvas 36" x 36"
I enjoy mowing the lawn for the sense of escape, the instant gratification and the pathways of freshly mowed lawn as compared to the taller, uncut grass. There is something zen about the activity like the miniature rakes and boxes of sand that people have on their desks.
I began the painting in the back yard and continued working outdoors until the intense heat and humidity and ravenous gnats and other insects got the better of me. I finished in the studio.
